Gary Cycles 105 Miles for Charity

On Friday 17th June, and the hottest day of the year so far, our financial controller Gary Wright and his 17-year-old daughter, Leah, took part in the annual Wolverhampton to Aberdovey bike ride raising funds for Leah’s chosen charity – Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

They had intended on doing the challenging 125 mile route, which includes a very steep climb at 99 miles, however due to numerous punctures (6 in total!) they missed the cut off time to take this route and will be returning in July to do this separately.

Instead, they completed the 105-mile route alongside approximately 450 other riders, of which Leah was the only cyclist under the age of 18.

To date, they have raised £600 (including gift aid) for this worthy cause – the event anticipates that over £150k in total will be raised this year for local charities. S Jones Containers have also sponsored Gary and Leah by donating £100 to their fundraiser.

Gary said: “Despite the heat and challenges along the way, it was a great event and we all pushed through to make it across the finish line in good spirits. It’s fantastic to see how much money we’ve raised for such a great cause, and we’re looking forward to completing the part of the longer route that we weren’t able to on the day in July.”

Well done to Gary and Leah!
