Shipping containers transformed into affordable homes

On Thursday 17th July, Forest YMCA celebrated the opening of the first 10 mYPads in Walthamstow.

mYPads are shipping containers which have been converted into innovative affordable homes for ex-homeless employed young people who are receiving the minimum wage. They have all the essentials; a bed, television, small kitchen and a toilet and shower. The containers have been stacked similar to apartment complexes, linked with balconies and reached by external stairs.

Charity Forest YMCA hopes the temporary accommodation will act as a “stepping stone” for young people moving towards independent living. Forest YMCA will be opening a further 20 mYPads in Leyton this autumn.

S Jones Containers provided all of the containers for this project.
