We designed and manufactured a world-first pump housing container to support a specialist pumping system requiring precise environmental control and protection. The bespoke container conversion was engineered to house complex mechanical equipment while maintaining accessibility, durability, and compliance in a challenging operational setting.
This project demonstrates how our custom pump housing containers can provide a flexible, transportable alternative to traditional plant housing for innovative engineering applications.
Murphys Waves, based in Glasgow, supply wave machines across the globe for the international water and leisure industry. Operating at the forefront of pump system innovation, Murphys Waves required a solution capable of supporting a highly specialised and previously untested application.
Their work demands absolute reliability, precise environmental control, and equipment protection in demanding operational conditions. As a result, any housing solution needed to be engineered with the same level of technical rigour as the pumping technology itself.
An unusual new surfing experience – reputed to be the world’s first-ever inflatable flow surfing ride called Surf-Air® is the brainchild of Murphys Waves and has created the opportunity for everyone to get up and have a go at surfing.
We provided the pump housing shipping container for the ride and undertook detailed design and manufacture of the container element of the project, from customer concept drawings, including ventilation, pump mountings, framework and brackets.
This was a fun project to work on, but one with some serious design challenges. However, we are always delighted to be tasked to come up with solutions for yet another use of a container.
Neil Walsh, project engineer at Murphys Waves Ltd, said: “The patented Surf-Air® is the world’s first ever inflatable flow surfing ride”, explaining how “the ride requires absolutely no construction and can be inflated and made fully operational in only a few short hours, making it the perfect surfing attraction for water parks, campsites and shopping malls etc.”
