When leading infrastructure contractor Colas UK required storage for the product it uses to fill potholes on national highways, S Jones Containers was able to identify and supply the solution. We’re proud to have supplied four modified containers for the safe and cost-effective storage of this product, helping Colas UK keep our roads moving.
Colas UK is a leading infrastructure contractor responsible for maintaining and improving key elements of the UK’s national infrastructure, including major highways and road networks. As part of its highway maintenance operations, the company uses Instarmac, a specialist material designed to quickly and effectively repair potholes on national highways, helping to keep roads safe and operational.
Instarmac provides a quick and effective solution for repairing potholes, but it must be stored at moderate temperatures to remain usable. If exposed to cold conditions, the product cannot be used and is therefore wasted.
Colas UK required a secure, temperature-controlled storage solution for its maintenance projects in Birmingham, ensuring the product could be stored safely and remain ready for use when needed. The containers also needed to be delivered and installed in a challenging location beneath a motorway flyover, adding further logistical complexity to the project.
With this in mind, Colas UK contacted our expert team to discuss a bespoke containerised storage solution for projects in Birmingham, close to our Walsall base. Following a period of negotiation to ensure all specifications were met, our on-site team tailored four containers that could safely store Instarmac. This included a variety of modifications including louvres, full side access personnel doors, racking, repainting, and crucially, the installation of electrics with heaters for temperature control.
Our team’s expertise in delivering containers to challenging locations meant we were able to successfully install the four modified containers underneath a motorway flyover. By close collaboration and real-time updates with our trusted hauliers, what could have been a potentially impossible delivery location was successfully achieved within Colas’ required timescales.
