Housing Cummins’ Energy Regeneration Processes In Bespoke Containers

Our bespoke containerised housing solution was engineered to support Cummins’ advanced energy regeneration system, enabling recovered electricity from diesel engine testing to be redirected into the national grid.

By converting and stacking two 40ft high cube shipping containers, our container solution created a compact, robust enclosure for critical power recovery equipment in a demanding industrial environment. This project demonstrates how our custom energy system container conversions deliver space-efficient, high-performance infrastructure aligned with sustainability and decarbonisation objectives.

The Customer

S Jones Containers has a long-standing reputation for delivering secure, tailored containerised housing solutions to global leaders across a range of industries. One such client is Cummins, a large corporation recognised worldwide for its innovations in engines, filtration, and power generation systems.

With over 100 years of engineering excellence, Cummins operates in more than 190 countries and territories and is at the forefront of developing technologies that drive decarbonisation and energy efficiency across industrial applications. The company’s focus on sustainability and net-zero targets has led to the development of pioneering solutions that rethink how energy is generated, utilised, and recaptured.

The Challenge

As part of its broader decarbonisation strategy, Cummins sought a containerised housing solution for a state-of-the-art energy regeneration system. The aim: to recover electricity generated during diesel engine testing and feed it back into the national grid, a technically complex but environmentally critical initiative.

The system would be installed at one of Cummins’ UK sites, where it would convert test energy from large diesel generators into reusable electricity, thereby reducing waste and supporting the company’s journey toward carbon neutrality.

What Cummins Had to Say

“S Jones were adaptive and flexible throughout the engineering phase, especially considering the effects of Covid-19 and the lockdown at the time. Their designers were engaging and contributed creative ideas to help us achieve this challenging project.”
