Temporary Modular Classrooms for the South West Essex Community Education Trust

Delivering rapid, fire-rated modular school buildings for growing educational demand

When the South West Essex Community Education Trust (SWECET) required high-quality temporary classrooms for one of its expanding schools, it turned to S Jones Modular Buildings for a fast, safe, and cost-effective modular building solution. The result was one of the first fire-rated Containex modular school blocks in the UK – delivered on time for the new academic year.

The Customer

Formed in 2015, the South West Essex Community Education Trust (SWECET) is a multi-academy trust dedicated to providing all students with a high-quality education that prepares them for future success. The trust currently oversees six schools: Deneholm Primary School, Stifford Clays Primary School, Chadwell St Mary Primary School, Marshalls Park Academy, Orsett Heath Academy, and William Edwards School.

SWECET has been widely recognised for improving academic performance, student engagement, and inclusivity across its schools. Its commitment to innovation and continual improvement in education made it a natural fit for a modern, modular construction approach when a temporary teaching facility was required.

The Challenge

During the construction of a new school building for Orsett Heath Academy, planning delays meant the permanent facility would not be ready for the start of term. This left SWECET urgently needing temporary classroom space for students in Years 7, 8, and 9.

The trust required a modular classroom building that could be delivered quickly, installed efficiently, and meet the high safety and quality standards expected in an educational environment, all while staying within a strict budget and timeline.

Although the building was originally intended as a temporary classroom solution, its robust modular design offers long-term flexibility. Once the permanent school building is completed, the structure will continue to serve as a multi-purpose space for extra-curricular and community use, including a covered balcony for viewing rugby matches.

The entire modular building project was completed in just a few weeks. Close collaboration with on-site contractors ensured the installation was delivered efficiently and safely, providing Orsett Heath Academy with a high-quality, ready-to-use classroom environment in time for the new academic year.
