We supported Heathrow Bakery, now trading as Panificio Italiano, with a series of bespoke containerised plant enclosures to support expansion at their high-output production facility.
Faced with space and integration constraints, the team required specialist housings for critical boiler equipment without disrupting live operations. Our container conversions provided a flexible, engineered solution capable of supporting demanding industrial baking processes at scale.
Heathrow Bakery, now known as Panificio Italiano, produces over 2 million rolls each week for the airline and prepared meal industry. As part of their expansion, the team needed specialist enclosures to house critical equipment, including biomass and steam boilers. Installing these directly into the existing buildings wasn’t feasible, so they turned to S Jones Containers for a flexible, tailored solution.
We supplied three fully modified containers to meet their requirements. Two 40ft high cube units were joined to form a spacious double-width housing for a Babcock steam boiler, essential for the baking process – particularly in proofing and crust development.
A separate 20ft unit was also converted to accommodate a Heuft oil boiler, used to heat the ovens.
Every container was built to a bespoke specification, with temperature control and safety in mind. This included precisely mounted vents for airflow, additional high-security personnel access doors, and a full repaint in the customer’s specified shade of grey to ensure consistency across their facility. The use of containers also allowed for quick deployment and minimal disruption to ongoing operations – a key factor for a high-output site like Heathrow Bakery.
