Side Opening Container Sizes

Our side opening container units have a wide access point on the longer side panel, consisting of full concertina cargo door, in addition to the standard doors on the shorter side of the unit. Our side opening containers are available in the following sizes:

  • 20ft Containers
  • 40ft Containers
  • 40ft High Cube Containers

Please note: Side opening doors are heavier than standard cargo doors, so the roof and floor of containers are reinforced to create a robust container. This means there can be a loss of internal height in the container.

Side Opening Shipping Container FAQs

What are side opening shipping containers?

Side opening shipping containers are also referred to as side access containers or full-side access containers. As you’d expect, they have doors that open on the longest side, as well as the end. This makes it easy to access to the full length of the container from the side, as well as use the traditional end-opening doors when needed.

How do side opening containers differ from standard shipping containers?

The main difference between side opening containers and standard shipping containers is the placement of the main doors along the longest side of the container.  Because these side opening doors are heavier than standard doors, the roof and floor of containers must be reinforced to ensure the container is secure and stable. Due to this additional reinforcement, there can be a loss of height within the container.

Are side opening containers available in high cube versions?

Yes, we offer side opening containers are available in 40ft high cube dimensions. Our high cube side opening shipping containers offer the additional 12 inch height of a high cube container, which allows for an even greater storage area.

I just wanted to thank everyone at S.Jones for the brilliant, professional service throughout the whole process of buying and delivering my container and also for their patience whilst we coped with very unhelpful weather on site. Special thanks to Rachel and Lorna and Lee at John Butlin & Co. Ltd
Transport and the very helpful, professional and efficient driver on the day. I had never bought a container (which by the way was very smart for a reconditioned one) and they all helped me when I must have been a complete pain at times!
