Wildlife “hotel” now OPEN!

The ‘jungle’ telegraph is buzzing about Denham Country Park’s new Eco Pod!

The “bug hotel” Eco Pod is designed around a 20ft shipping container.  Groundwork South came to S Jones Containers, leaders in creating and providing Contained Space Solutions, to draw up a 3D CAD model design and then modify the container in their Aldridge-based workshops to the customer’s specific and exact requirements.  Included in the specification were; electrical system, door, window and insulated lining. The modified container was then delivered to the park and off-loaded by S Jones’ specialist hauliers, where it was finished with local wood cladding and bug friendly features.  Covering one side of the Eco Pod are nesting boxes and nooks and crannies for all sizes and shapes of bugs, birds and even bats.

The Eco Pod was made possible with a grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust which was given to Groundwork South who managed the project.  The project was also supported by the Friends of the Colne Valley Park.

The Eco Pod will also be used for a wide variety of imaginative craft activities to introduce local children to local wildlife.

Graham Chesterman, Project Manager at Groundwork South, commented;

“We chose S Jones Containers for their excellent response to our initial enquiry. We needed a bespoke container to use as a kiosk and meeting room, with doors, a wall, lining, electrics etc. We were impressed that S Jones were prepared to invest some time right from the outset to show that they could do this project as we required and also contribute to the design based on their knowledge.

That initial impression did not disappoint and we were very pleased with the design, the level of communication, their ability to deal with the snags and the end product.”
